Louis Miele, CPA joined Leaf, Saltzman in 1982. Lou's strengths can be seen when he is assisting closely held businesses with financial and tax matters. He frequently advises clients in areas such as financial statement presentation, financing their business and personal assets, sales and mergers of business, compensation issues and succession planning. His clients also rely on him for corporate, personal and estate tax planning advice.
During the years, Lou has expanded his client base to include the following industries: construction, real estate, trucking, warehousing and logistics, retail, manufacturing and medical practices. Currently, Lou heads up the Firm’s Construction Division.
A Certified Public Accountant in both New Jersey and New York, Lou is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants (NJSCPA), and New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants (NYSSCPA).
Lou has been a member of several professional networking groups including the New Jersey Commercial Real Estate Alliance (NJCREA) - Retail Division.
Within the firm, Lou is Co-Managing Partner and an elected member of both the Executive Committee and the Compensation Committee. He is also a trustee of the Firm’s 401K plan.
Lou has been quoted on numerous occasions on a variety of accounting and tax related topics, in NJ Biz, a weekly New Jersey based business publication.
Lou is a graduate of Rutgers College where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics with a concentration in Accounting. After earning his CPA license, Lou returned to Rutgers where he earned his MBA with a concentration in Finance. He was admitted into the Beta Gamma Business Honor Society upon graduation. Lou is also a proud graduate of Seton Hall Preparatory School.
Lou resides in New Providence, New Jersey with his wife, Tracey and their two children and is active in his community. Lou recently served as Treasurer of the Seton Hall Prep Father’s Club and a member of their Auction Committee. Lou has volunteered for Project Graduation at New Providence High School and has served on the Borough of New Providence Recreation Commission and the Community Activities Advisory Board. He is a former Director of the New Providence PAL. Lou served for 5 years as the Commissioner of the New Providence Green League, a summer youth baseball league that provides the youth of 25 different communities in Union, Essex, Morris and Somerset counties with an opportunity to play summer baseball. Previously, Louis served for 5 years as the Treasurer of The Learning Circle, a Summit based not for profit that operates child care centers with financial assistance for low income families.
In his free time, Lou enjoys biking with Tracey and can frequently be found rooting for the Scarlet Knights at Rutgers football and basketball games.
